Cyprus EU Association in its written press statement stated that north Cyprus is in shatters and an extraordinary ability was shown for so many dismal affairs to coincide.

KAB went on to say that: “the government not comprehending the unsustainability of the building industry boom in north Cyprus following the referendums , carried on an irrespective spending spree and now the whole community is faced with the bill;”and reiterated that “the necessities were put forward verbally and in writing hundreds of  times. Economically minded and viable ideas were put forward in many reports. Never the less, the government carried on as she thought fit, just like her predecessors and it should be perceived that the withdrawal of the “income tax stoppage at imports” will not be a remedy. You cannot get rid of mosquitoes unless the swamps are dried up. Until the Turkish Cypriot community attains democratic self rule and takes her place in the modern world, it is impossible for her to achieve economic productivity and contemporary living standards”.

The press statement continued by saying that; “If Cyprus Turkish Airlines, Universities, Agricultural Products Institution, Electricity Authority and similar government controlled institutions due to their inefficient structures, continue to make losses of  millions of dollars; narcotics, gambling, night clubs, betting offices; materialistic and political corruption has become part of the daily life; if undemocratic implementations as executed in the event of the simple removal of the foot-bridge, press being categorised as “white listed  and black listed”, are on increase, the struggle to achieve the withdrawal of the income tax stoppage at imports, which is taking place in the community’s present agenda will not solve anything” and went on to say that ”the time has come to concentrate on the core of the problem rather than trying to solve the micro problems. Writing on ice is only for our temporary self satisfaction.”

“Such a structure isolated from the world, where universal values are disregarded and distanced from international institutions control and enforcement and no serious work being done to harmonise with the EU acquis, cannot accomplish contemporary living standards for its citizens. Political and economic decisions being dictated from far away, makes the situation even graver. In uncertain situations, fine tuning adjustments can not be performed.” Finally, in the KAB press release, some words were expressed to the government and the President “if you continue spending irrespectively and beg for the salary payments at the end of each month, then you will continue to take orders and be rebuked. As in the foot-bridge incident, they will tell you what to do and remind you about the transitional Art.No.10 of the Constitution. If for years, everything had been said but nothing has been done, and Civil Service reform, EU harmonisation and World Bank reports are kept shelved, black holes of CT Airlines and similar institutions are enlarged instead of diminishing, then you are forced to compel the citizens one way or another to pay the millions of dollars of losses.”

Further more, following call was also made: ”while all the above mentioned dishonourable state of affairs continue and unless the Cyprus problem is solved, the destiny of the Turkish Cypriot community can never reach contemporary living standards. This can only be achieved by putting forward the Turkish Cypriot Community identity of the equal partner of the Republic of Cyprus. We should put forward our demands to take control of our destiny and should struggle for this aim."
