The lawsuit lodged at the High Court of the Republic of Cyprus, following the rejection of the Turkish Cypriots right to vote and to stand for election at the general elections will continue on Monday, 19th March 2007 at 11.00 hrs.

The lawsuit lodged at the High Court of the Republic of Cyprus following the rejection of the 78 Turkish Cypriot’s request, almost a year ago, to vote and to stand for elections as stated in the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus, will continue on Monday, 19th March 2007 at 11.00 hrs.

The High Court has already declared the case “admissible” and held that the communication with the Applicants to be “in Turkish Language” and in conformity with this order, Attorney’s office has at last, presented his defence in Turkish on 28th February 2007.

Attorney General did not present his defence on 1st December 2006 and 14th February 2007 Full Bench hearing, despite his several requests for adjournments.

Although Court has already declared the case admissible, the Attorney General is still insisting on his claim that the case “is not within the jurisdiction” of the High Court.

Since the Attorney General has presented his defence, the case will for the first time be deliberated in details by the “Full Bench” on 19th March 2007.

The case will be heard at the High Court Buildings at south Nicosia and is open to the public. Thus those interested in the case, can personally follow the proceedings.

It was observed that the press from south and north Cyprus showed special interest in the proceedings of 14th February 2007.
