President of the Supreme Court, Dear Mr. President of the Supreme Court, We had received a negative reply on the 13th of April 2006 from the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Andreas Christou, to our application of 78 Turkish Cypriots dated 28th February 2006, for our rights to elect and be elected. Thereupon, we had filed a case in the Supreme Court. This court case filed on the 28th of April, in Turkish language, by Ali Erel and Mustafa Damdelen, was against the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Cyprus, the Attorney General of the Republic and the Republic of Cyprus. Even though it is now past 30 days since our application, we have not yet given a date for the case to be examined in front of the court. The Supreme Court Registrar has been continuously giving us the same information that our application in Turkish language needs to be translated into Greek language and due to not having sufficient number of translators available in the court, it is not known yet when this translation will be done. With this case, we were requesting from the court to rule that; we should be registered in the electoral list as stated by the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus and if this is not done before the date of the elections of the House of Representatives, which had been scheduled for the 21st of May 2006, the elections be postponed. Some important parts of our requests are now already made invalid through delaying the case. It is absolutely not possible for us to accept the delaying of this case that is filed in Turkish, which is one of the official languages of the Republic of Cyprus. We wish to bring to your attention that, the continuation of the delays will clearly show the unavailability of the local remedies, meaning that we shall use our right to apply to the European Court of Human Rights directly for the redress. We ask from you, as the President of the Supreme Court, to interfere and to make possible for our case to be examined by the court. Yours sincerely, Ali Erel Mustafa Damdelen
